Alex Schubert is a Sydney/Gadigal based leadlighter, owner and creator of woffel glass.
His beliefs are centered around preserving and upholding the traditional aspects, methods and culture of the ancient and noble material of glass. Breathing new life into the industry and incorperating his own style throughout his journey, Alex blends traditional and contemporary values of the trade, working within residential, commercial and other contemporary fields.
His work draws inspiration from timeless designs left behind by the generations before him, as well as delving into more abstract and subjective matter. This process always begins with his own drawings, then ends with his own designs. They can be delicate and refined, bold and saturated with colour, texture and everything else in between.
Alex started his career in art as a traditonal signwriter. He completed his trade in 2012 and stayed within the industry until 2016. specialising in hand painted signage . That preservation of craft stuck with him even after he changed career paths to leadlighting. That mindset determined him to reach out to local glass artists to learn everything he could from experienced professionals and to be a part of the small community of glass artists in Australia. He has gone on to collaborate with some of the most prolific tradesman his area has to offer.
